Russian and Croatian prime ministers discuss oil and gas sector

Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin and Croatian prime minister Jadranka Kosor have met in Moscow to discuss issues of cooperation in the oil and gas sector.

Among the topics discussed was the possibility of Croatia joining the South Stream gas pipeline project.

Energy group Gazproms 900km long South Stream pipeline will run under the Black Sea from the Russian coast to the Bulgarian coast.

The gas pipelines capacity could be increased to 63 billion cubic metres annually and it is expected to start operating in late 2015.

Mr Putin described the meeting as open and friendly, Balkans.com reported.

"Russia regards Croatia as an important and reliable partner in Europe and in the Balkans," he told the news site.

Around 1.2 billion cubic metres of natural gas are imported from Russia by Croatia. According to reports the Croatian city of Zagreb is also interested in importing 2.7 billion cubic metres of gas from the country.ADNFCR2586ID19647407ADNFCR
