Hungarian section of Arad-Szeged pipeline is ready for test runs

Published on Thursday 11th February 2010

The Hungarian section of the natural gas pipeline between Arad in Romania and Szeged in Hungary has been completed.

Connecting the natural gas transmissions systems of Hungary and Romania, the 47km Hungarian section of the pipeline is now ready for test runs, Pipelines International reported.

Around 37km of the Romanian section of the pipeline has been completed. Its total length will be 62km once finished.

Owners of the Hungarian and Romanian highpressure gas transmission system, FGSZ and Transgaz first signed an agreement in January 2008 regarding the natural gas pipeline.

When the deal was signed both parties did not rule out the possibility of reversing the direction of the flow of natural gas so that it also carried gas from Hungary to Romania.

It is anticipated that the crossborder section of the pipeline will be completed by the end of September.

Last month, gas transport company Transgaz revealed that Romanian imports of natural gas exceeded two billion cubic metres last year. However this was less than half the amount that was imported the previous year. ADNFCR2586ID19607244ADNFCR
