Oil & gas recruitment: PetroChina plans third gas pipeline

Published on Friday 8th January 2010

Oil and gas producer PetroChina has announced that it aims to complete a third gas pipeline from western China to Beijing by October.

The 820 km pipeline will have a capacity of 15 billion cubic metres per year and will begin at PetroChinas gas field in northern Shaanxi province, Xinhua reported.

Shortages of fuel experienced by China throughout the heavy snowfall this winter have led to a growing need for the third pipeline, with gas use in the Chinese capital reaching new highs.

In order to meet the high demand for gas PetroChina has also ordered that full production take place at the Changqing field at a rate of over 65 million cubic metres a day, Xinhua reported.

Earlier this month, Chinas largest gas supplier, Australian gas firm Woodside, also announced the end of a $40.4 billion (£25.4 billion) agreement with PetroChina.
