Work on a new gas pipeline in the north of Israel is to go ahead, allowing natural gas to reach the Haifa port area and creating gas recruitment possibilities.
Prime minister of Israel Binyamin Netanyahu has given the green light for the compensation mechanism for landholders on the route of the pipeline.
The project has been delayed for months because an agreement could not be reached with the community who own the land that the pipeline will go through.
This not only affected the gas recruitment that was to be generated by the pipeline but led to oil being burnt by power plants and factories instead of the natural gas the pipeline would provide being used.
Following a series of meetings between landowners, the community affected by the pipeline and the government, an agreement has been reached. This involved the community receving compensation for the land the pipeline would pass through.
After discussions with advisers, the prime minister has said that work on the project will begin by the end of the month. Once completed, the pipeline will run over 68 km.
