Petrobras has announced the launch of a new pipeline that could create oil and gas recruitment opportunities.
The UrucuCoariManaus conduit is to begin commercial operations in transporting natural gas.
At 661 kilometres long, the channel will connect the Urucu gas field to the Amazon region, which, according to reports, is starved of energy.
Initial capacity will commence at 4.1 million cubic metres per day.
Further oil and gas recruitment opportunities will become available as the project expands to produce 5.5 million cubic metres per day by September 2010.
The resource will be used in thermoelectric plants in order to generate electricity for the region.
During a webcast of the event, chief executive of the company Jose Sergio Gabrielli said: "As [natural gas] demand grows, so will the supply from this pipeline."
Petrobras has over 100 production platforms, 16 refineries and 30,000 kilometres of pipeline, as well as over 6,000 gas stations.
