Operator Origin Energy New Zealand has revealed that commissioning of the Kupe facilities has begun, which could oil and gas recruitment opportunities.
The Kupe gas project has commenced production, with the first gas and liquids are now being piped to Hawera, New Zealand an onshore gas processing plant.
"We expect that full steady state production will be achieved in the next couple of months," Andrew Sotck, executive general manager of major development projects for Origin, told Offshore.
Located in south Taranaki, offshore New Zealand, the initial development includes a 12inch multiphase pipeline to shore and an onshore production station.
The Kupe project, which could produce more than 50 per cent of New Zealands demand for gas and further oil and gas recruitment, also features an oil storage facility at New Plymouth.
It is predicted that the Kupe project will generate up to 90,000 tonnes per annum of liquefied petroleum gas.
