Testing on the Medgaz pipeline is required before it can be fully operational, which may require oil and gas recruitment.
Running from Algeria to southern Spain, the natural gas conduit has been delayed in becoming active, according to reports.
Expected to be fully functional in June 2010, a Medgaz spokesperson cited the consortiums chair.
The representative said: "Pedro Miro told journalists on Saturday that tests on the pipeline will start in March and the pipeline will be fully operational around June," Reuters reports.
Some eight billion cubic metres of gas is to be transported by the offshore pipeline, which is 90 per cent complete and may therefore have offshore vacancies.
It runs to a depth of over 2,000 metres in the Mediterranean Sea.
Planning for the conduit began in 2000. Earlier this year, the consortium announced the completion of the beach reinstatement works in Algeria and Spain, following the construction of the offshore pipeline.
