Poland has suggested that the Nord Stream Project lays the pipeline under the Baltic Sea bed as opposed to over it, according to reports.
The country expressed concerns over the potential restriction on navigation and the development of the Swinoujscie gas terminal.
In addition, the nation stated laying the conduit on top of the seabed may jeopardise the construction of the Sczczecin and Swinoujscie harbours.
The issue was raised last week in talks with Germany, according to the Polsih deputy minister of state treasury Mikolaj Budzanowski.
Mr Budzanowski spoke to wnp.pl, according to PolishMarket.com. He is cited as saying: "Two issues are being addressed in the talks with Germany the issue of the spatial development plan … and the issue of the negative, in Poland’s opinion, impact of its construction on the environment."
Furthermore, head of the Sczczecin port Andrzej Borowiec explained a pipeline would restrict the deepening of the access route to Swinoujscie.
Last week, Sweden gave the green light to the Nord Stream Project, following two years of opposition on environmental grounds.
