Oil and gas recruitment efforts undertaken by BP could extend into the latter part of the coming decade following the announcement of a planned extension to its Kaskida field in Keathley Canyon.
An appraisal well drilled 250 miles southwest of New Orleans in the Gulf of Mexico has revealed the presence of oil beyond the limits of existing drilling.
The latest well is located five miles west of the discovery well on the Kaskida field and was drilled in 5,675 feet of water to a total depth of 32,500 feet.
With the discovery, oil and gas recruitment campaigns at BP may be extended for another ten years.
Chief executive of exploration and production Andy Inglis says that the find "supports the continuing growth of our deepwater Gulf of Mexico business into the second half of the next decade".
BP, which owns a 70 per cent stake in the project, says that it is "at the frontier" of technology relating to deepwater exploration and development.
