Petrovietnam has requested permission to build a second pipeline, in oil and gas recruitment news.
The first conduit was constructed by BP in the Nam Con Son Basin for $1.3 billion (£816 million), according to Reuters.
It supplies some four billion cubic metres of gas every year, which represents 32 per cent of the countrys energy.
However, the state oil firm has asked the Vietnamese government if it can build another line in the same region.
Petrovietnam chief executive Phung Dunh Thuc told the Dau Tu news provider that it would transport natural gas to the Phu My power plant in the province of Ba RiaVung Tau.
In related oil and gas recruitment news, earlier this year, the firm expressed an interest in building a pipeline in Mozambique.
The project, which was anticipated to be worth $85 million, was part of a series of initiatives planned in the country.
Meanwhile, Mozambiques Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonatos has announced an international tender for the construction of a new pipeline.
