Dong to see Nord Stream project gas deliveries double

Published on Tuesday 6th October 2009

Dong Energy has announced it is to receive double the amount of natural gas through the Nord Stream project pipeline.

The Danish firm said last week that it had signed a contract with Russian energy company Gazprom, which would secure an increase of the substance from 2012.

According to reports, this would see the amount upped from the current yield to two billion cubic metres.

The contract stipulated that the higher amount would continue for an 18year duration and would be delivered at the DanishGerman border.

Commenting on the development, Kurt Bligaard Pedersen, executive vicepresident of Dong Energy, said he welcomed the move.

"The supplies from Gazprom are part of our gas sourcing strategy, which builds on diversifying our sources of delivery in order to secure our energy supplies," he remarked.

Initially, an agreement between the two firms, signed in 2006, entailed one billion cubic metres being delivered via the Nord Stream project from 2011 for 20 years.

Nord Stream said last week that it plans to begin the disposal of unexploded munitions in the security corridor of its pipeline route in Finnish and ~Swedish waters.
