A leading company from Aberdeen has discovered gas in the East Irish Sea, which could create new opportunities for those looking at oil and gas recruitment.
Venture Production made the find ten miles north east of the Morecambe South production complex.
The Whitbeck exploration well encountered a 120 feet gross gas column at a depth of 5,787 feet.
Gas water contact was made at 5,518 ft within Triassic Ormskirk Sandstone by the well, which was spudded in July using an Ensco 92 jackup rig.
In a statement, Venture asserts: "Down hole samples were taken to confirm the gas quality and the initial analysis indicates that it is within the predrill expectation range."
The company will be making a field development decision soon which could create new oil and gas recruitment opportunities.
In its half year results, the company reports that production volumes were up 16 per cent on last year, with proven and probable reserves up 12 per cent by the end of the first quarter.
