Worrall Lees Associates Ltd has been providing QC and Inspection services at the OMK Pipemill in Vyksa, Russia on behalf of the ‘Nord Stream Baltic Gas Pipeline Project’.
The local community have been more than accommodating and made the Personnel working there feel very welcome during the 18 months they have been resident and because of this WLA and the inspection teams wanted to contribute to the Vyksa community in some way and thank them for their hospitality.
The senior personnel on site researched and made enquiries locally and found an Orphanage which although was clean, warm and well organised was in much need of building and maintenance repairs and everyone agreed that this would be a very worthwhile focus of our attention.
WLA made an initial substantial donation to the orphanage (which has over 60 children ranging from babies to 4-5 years old and some handicapped children also) for the purchase of urgent kitchen equipment, bedding and radios but the main area for attention was a new roof!.
This quest sounded like a huge undertaking but the Project entitled: ‘Vyksa Orphanage 'Would Like A New Roof' Fund’ received huge interest and with many kind donations the roof repairs started with gusto and were soon completed and with donations still coming in they were able to carry out some necessary major plumbing works also.
However, there was no shortage of ways in which the Orphanage could benefit from the generosity of you all and the next tasks completed was the building ‘Gable End’ that was badly cracked along with pavement/patio repairs of which both were cause for safety concerns.
And finally with winter approaching the orphanage have been able to purchase 2 new heaters which with temperatures that can plummet to -20 to -35 degrees these will be very welcome!.
May we take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed in any way and know that the orphanage and children have benefited and are very grateful for your kindness.
We have included some pictures so that you can see for yourself the results……………………
Great North Air Ambulance
Our latest charity donation has seen us sponsor Debby and Ken Simpson and their entrance in the ‘Landy Rally’.
It is a charity endurance challenge of 2,800 miles around Europe encompassing 11 countries in 9 days; this event is part competition and part off-road driving. In September 2008, for the first time, the Landy Rally saw the introduction of the Landy(ish) Rally which allowed all makes of 4x4 vehicles to compete for the same trophies as their Land Rover counterparts.
In September 2009, for the first time, a team from the North East’s ‘4x4 Jamboree’ www.4x4jamboree.co.uk will be joining in to try and raise much needed funds for the excellent North East Air Ambulance charity.
At noon on Saturday 19th September the much publicised event commences with up to one hundred vehicles travelling through Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, the Black Forest in Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein, Switzerland, tackling the 48 hairpin bends of the Stelvio Pass in Italy, off-road driving on normally closed pistes at Val d'Isére 2,500m up in the up in the French Alps, Andorra, through the remote tracks of the Spanish and French Pyrénées, then north through the length of France to the finishing line in Calais.
Add to this mix, the opportunity of raising a substantial amount of revenue for the Macmillan Foundation and other charities and causes, it quickly becomes apparent this is an event of substance and worthy of support.
